Last Monday in Los Angeles (California) gave us one of the great Hitmakers history, the lyricist Jerry Leiber at the age of 78.
Together with his friend and partner Mike Stoller formed one of the most prolific pairs. They wrote numerous issues that have gone down in music history: “Hound Dog” “Jailhouse Rock,” “Stand By Me,” “Ruby Baby” “Is That All There Is ?”…
Among the artists who performed their songs are Elvis Presley, Ben E. King, The Drifters, The Beatles, Peggy Lee, Jerry Lee Lewis, The Everly Brothers, Aretha Franklin, Barbra Streisand, Bette Midler, Edith Piaf, The Rolling Stones …
The first song was written Leiber and Stoller in 1950, although the star did not reach them until 1956 when Elvis performed “Hound Dog”.
In 1985 both composers entered the hall of fame of composers and shortly after the producers and the Rock and Roll.
Here you have a great documentary that reviews the career of these two great composers:
And several of their successes:
Elvis Presley “Hound Dog”
Ben E. King “Stand by me”
Bette Midler “Is That All There Is?”
